So its been 10 days since my Mother went, voluntarily, into a care home after a fall and a spell in hospital. This means she has gone into a home with a positive attitude, which is often not the case. Often people feel like they have been forced into care – which can lead to feelings of abandonment and resentment.
Thankfully, that is not the case for my Mother. She left hospital extremely frail, but was excited about being looked after! A good care home is like a posh hotel, with nurses instead of waiting staff!
My Mum is loving her experience so far, which I personally think is down partly to the fact that she has ‘outsourced’ responsibility for her overall care; bathing, dressing, cooking, etc, not to mention, shopping, meal planning, paying bills etc, etc. She has a lot less to worry about.
In addition to all of this, she has regular visitors. With friends and family usually visiting at least once a day with the visits often lasting up to an hour. However, the essential factor here is the constant stream of nurses and staff that pop in probably every 20 minutes or so, delivering food, administering medication, washing, bathing, dressing her, or just to say hello and check everything is ok. She has a whole set of new friends (the staff), which she is thoroughly enjoying.
She is loving the TLC she is receiving! This is making her incredibly happy, and this makes me happy!!
